Study habits

In college a lot of new things are learned and among those things one is to manage your own habits including your study habits. As this semester of college unfolds, I anticipate that I will be changing a lot of things. Some reasons for that is that I will need new study habits different from my old high school ones, control my schedule as it gets hectic and make the decision on which classes are the most important.

As I move into college my study habits must completely change because in high school I had someone there pushing me in every class saying things like “do not forget your such and such is due tomorrow” or “okay even though you did bad you can just retake it after school tomorrow”. Once I got into the college, I lost that luxury of just winging it and being able to get A’s and B’s, and if I did not I could just retake the test. So now I have to push myself to go study, and read all the information. Making this transition will be based on how I hectic my schedule gets.

I have to learn to manage my own schedule in college and have to base it around school instead of basing it around my personal things. This means I will have to make sure that there is still time for everything that’s important once my schedule gets very hectic. I will have to prioritize my events, and for me, my number one priority is school. So that means I will have to make sure that once these hectic times where my schedule gets really cramped up that I have plenty of time for studying for all my classes, even if that means I cannot hang out with people or go to a party because my motto is that “there will always be another party”. This is why I make school the most important thing on my priority list. As my schedule gets out of control, I will have to rank classes to make sure everything stays in control.

As college goes along, I will have to decide which classes are the most difficult and mold my studying habits around that. Such as if English, which I have never been very good at, becomes very difficult for me I will need to change my studying habits so that I put more time into that class instead of a class that is really easy to me. Doing this will make it were everything stays more focused on the classes that I need more help in. As the semester goes on, I will also learn how the teachers teach. This means if I have a teacher that teaches the way I learn the best for a subject, such as verbal or demonstrative, then it will help me mold my study habits to make sure they reflect how much I still need to learn or remember for that course.

Through my years of education I have had to change many things in many different ways. Through this semester of college, I anticipate that I will have to change them yet again as I transition from my high school habits, control my hectic schedule and make decisions on what is most important. As I do this I will be molding myself into a better student and making myself the best scholar I can be.
